With a strong theatrical history, and a highly regarded athletics program, GCA is pleased to once again offer our sports and drama camps this summer. Please see below for camp descriptions, registration pages and cost. Camps run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and are open to students from any school.

Drama Camp (Gr 5/6)
Jun 27-30

Our intensive camp introduces and hone skills in the dramatic arts. Campers will be learning drama exercises, strengthening acting skills and techniques, working through improv and more utilizing our spacious drama studio and the WK Grout theatre. At the end of the week, vignettes will be presented. Camp costs $199 for the week (no camp on Friday)

Available for students going into Grades 5 or 6 (as of September 2022)

Multi-Sport Camp A (Gr 6/7)
Jul 4-8

Our Multisport Camp A is a great opportunity for students to come and enjoy a variety of different sports throughout the week.  Each day we will be focusing on a new sport, with the mornings dedicated to skill development and the afternoons geared towards games.  Some of the sports included in this camp include; basketball, badminton, and track & field. Camp costs $250 for the week.

Available for students going into Grades 6 or 7 (as of September 2022)

Badminton Camp (Gr 4/5)
Jul 11-15

Our badminton camp is a great opportunity for any student who loves or is interested in badminton.  Each day we will focus on foundational skills, strategies, and gameplay to help each athlete grow in confidence.  Throughout the day, we will also be participating in non badminton related activities.  By the end of the week, students will also get to compete in various different types of tournaments. Camp costs $250 for the week.

Available for students going into Grades 4 or 5 (as of September 2022)

Badminton Camp (Gr 6/7)
Jul 25-29

Our badminton camp is a great opportunity for any student who loves or is interested in badminton.  Each day we will focus on foundational skills, strategies, and gameplay to help each athlete grow in confidence.  Throughout the day, we will also be participating in non badminton related activities.  By the end of the week, students will also get to compete in various different types of tournaments. Soccer Camp (Gr 4/5)
Jul 4-8

Our soccer camp is a great opportunity for students who enjoy the sport of soccer to develop fundamental soccer skills and take their understanding of the game to the next level. This camp will combine elements of technical training with scrimmages, tournaments, and many other fun soccer- based activities. Camp costs $250 for the week.

Available for students going into Grades 4 or 5 (as of September 2022)

Volleyball Development Camp (Gr 8/9)
Aug 2-5

With volleyball tryouts right at the beginning of the school year, our Volleyball development camp is geared towards giving athletes a chance to shake the rust off, and get ready for tryouts in September.  Foundational skills, drills, strategy, positioning, and gameplay will be the focus of this camp and has been designed to give each athlete the confidence they need heading into tryouts. Camp costs $199 for the week (no camp on Monday)

Aug 8-12

Our second Multisport Camp is all about giving each student the opportunity to play a variety of different sports both familiar and new.  Each day we will be focusing on two different sports; one in the morning and one in the afternoon.  This camp is all about PLAY!  Some of the sports students will get to enjoy this week include; dodgeball, handball, soccer, and floor hockey. Camp costs $250 for the week.

The Camp Instructors
Coach Jonathan Tweedle

Jonathan Tweedle has his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and his Bachelor of Education with a specialty in Physical Education.  He currently teaches in Jr High. Jonathan was one of the key creators of the Grade 4 & 5 Intramural Program.

 

Jonathan's love and passion for sports has been a defining quality for his entire life. From baseball, soccer, and basketball recreationally, he has also spent most of his life playing competitively in hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, football, and wrestling.

 

Jonathan is excited to spend the summer helping students develop their love for sport, strengthen their skills, and serve God through sport.  Whether it's for competition, intramurals, or physical fitness, these summer camps are going to be a blast!

Chris Silver - Drama

Chris Silver is one of two drama specialists in Junior High. He has been extensively involved in directing the Spring Productions, and the one-act plays showcased at Rosebud Theatre. 

With a Bachelor of Education specializing in psychology, theatre has been a perfect fit for Chris. His passion for the stage and screen comes through in all of his classes and camps. It is his desire to not only help students learn the fundamentals of the craft, but to create a safe space for them to grow as actors, as people, and as Christ-followers.

Coaches Taylor Johnson & Dillon Traber

Taylor Johnson currently works at GCA as one of the Grade 6-9 Physical Education teachers at GCA. Taylor graduated from Trinity Western University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts and Education. Taylor has a deep love and appreciation for all sports, but has played competitively since 10 years old. While in Calgary, Taylor played for Foothills Soccer Club, then moving on to play at Trinity Western University for 5 years.

 

Taylor has developed a love for coaching over the past 5 years. With experience in coaching both at the university level at Trinity Western as an assistant coach, as well as at the developmental level with different local clubs in British Columbia, he looks forward to continuing growing the game of soccer in Canada at GCA this summer!

Dillon Traber currently works has a school counsellor within both the elementary and Jr. High schools at. He has a lively passion for all things sports and has played soccer at a competitive level for the majority of his life. 

 

Dillon has spent the past 10 years coaching soccer teams and providing technical sessions for both Foothills and Blizzard soccer clubs. Most recently, Dillon finished up his varsity career at Ambrose University and is now pursuing his UEFA coaching licenses.

 

Dillon is excited to spend this summer helping students increase both their awareness and attributes within the sport of soccer and have a great time doing it!
