Junior Kindergarten

Using the Alberta Kindergarten Curriculum as a base, GCA's Junior Kindergarten program prepares children for Kindergarten success with numeracy and literacy elements. JK welcomes children from 3 to 5 years old (turning 4 by December 31). Class sizes are capped at 20 students, ensuring more teacher-child time, with two adults in class all the time. This allows for better assessments of the student's progress and abilities. Literacy and numeracy are introduced through hands-on learning and play, as age-appropriate, fundamentally based printing skills begin. As per our Biblically infused curriculum, JK students develop and reflect on their relationship with Christ daily through their various activities. Our JK students also have library twice a month.

Our JK program is licensed through Alberta Childcare and adheres to provincial regulations. There are two half-day classes to choose from:

  • Mon/Wed/Fri from 8:40 am to 11:40 am

  • Tues/Thurs from 8:40 am to 11:40 am

We also offer full-day JK, with an academic portion in the morning, and exploration centres, worship, Phys Ed, Science, Music, Art, and more in the afternoons. Full-day students can be dropped off between 7:00 am and 8:40 am, and picked up between 3:20 pm and 6:00 pm. Options include:

  • Mon/Wed/Fri from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm

  • Tues/Thurs from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm

  • All Week from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm
